The Mayoral Election has been a big topic of discussion across New York City!
Last month, the Human Services Council, Nonprofit New York, and the Advocacy Institute hosted the 2021 Nonprofit Mayoral Forum to hear from candidates on important topics related to nonprofits, including funding, contracting, and access to services.
Will Woods, a resident of Urban Pathways’ Residence at Hallet’s Cove and member of Urban Pathways’ Client Advocacy Group, participated in the Forum to share part of his story and ask an important question of the candidates. He shared the impact that Urban Pathways and nonprofit services has had on his life.
“Being able to link up with Urban Pathways has provided me with a stable platform to recover and to reinvest in my health, in addition to helping me look for affordable housing on my own. So, it’s very clear in my own life that being able to work with nonprofit agencies has helped me live a longer life, helped me live a healthier life.”
His question, presented to Mayoral Candidate and Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams, was, What are your priorities to ensure all New Yorkers like me have more and easier access to nonprofit services across the City?”
You can watch the full forum here and catch Will’s full story at 49:07.
Although not all candidates attended the forum, all candidates running in the Mayoral Primary were also sent a Nonprofit Policy Questionnaire. You can read their written responses here.
And remember to vote on Primary Election Day, Tuesday, June 22nd!
