This past Martin Luther King Day, our clients at 162nd street in the Bronx, and Cluster in New York City held events dedicated to the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Remembering Dr. King’s life, legacy, and fight for equality; clients at our newest residence at 162nd street took part in arts, crafts and inspirational writing.
Quotes, pictures, coloring printouts, crafts, and I have a dream worksheet and Dr. King themed crosswords.
Clients wrote about their dreams, what Dr. Kings words meant to them, and shared their pictures and writings with their fellow residents and staff.
Residents said that they were glad this event took place because it gave them a space and platform to share what they think and feel about inequality, injustice, the strive for peace and the realization of Dr. King’s dream.
Urban Pathway’s Cluster, supportive housing residence in New York City was visited by the corporate volunteer team from Smart Design, headed by former Associate Board member Sarah Szeflinski.
Volunteers ordered ingredients and utilized the site kitchen to cook tacos for all 52 residents. The team from Smart Design served all the clients, providing them with snacks, beverages, and various taco options.
Clients were very happy to receive a holiday dinner. They were very grateful and one client Vanessa, even created a thank you card (shown below).
Overall, the clients were happy that they had events to celebrate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Help us provide more events and activities for formerly homeless men and women in 2018.
