We are excited to announce the completion of Marcus Garvey Village, a new mixed-use housing development located in the heart of Harlem, NYC. Marcus Garvey Village exemplifies the purpose of mixed-use housing: to create vibrant, sustainable communities by integrating residential, commercial, and community-oriented spaces within a single development. This project, designed by Body Lawson Associates Architects and Planners and developed by Ed Poteat [Carthage Real Estate Advisors], honors the legacy of Marcus Garvey, a Jamaican political activist and founder of the Universal Negro Improvement Association and African Communities League.
Situated on West 124th Street, Marcus Garvey Village is surrounded by iconic Harlem landmarks such as the Apollo Theater and the African American Museum, as well as other cultural institutions. The development features 169 apartments, including studios, one-bedroom, and two-bedroom units. A staggering 70,000 applicants participated in the lottery for affordable housing, reflecting the critical need for such developments in New York City.
Urban Pathways will provide supportive services to 51 of the 169 units at Marcus Garvey Village. These services, funded by the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH), will provide housing and individualized support to residents, including formerly homeless individuals.
The development offers residents a range of modern amenities, including on-site parking, a bike room, a lounge, and outdoor entertainment areas. The ground floor houses space for growth, including the upcoming Harlem Center, a safe space for the Black and brown LGBTQ+ community. Marcus Garvey Village also fosters community engagement by offering free rooftop reservations to local nonprofits.
Marcus Garvey Village is more than just housing—it is a step toward building a stronger, more inclusive Harlem.
