My name is Edward; I am a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. I served 2 tours in Vietnam before being honorably discharged. For 28 years I was a pharmaceutical representative in Connecticut until I was laid off.
Hearing of job openings in New York City, I came down to interview but was never hired.
Unemployed and living with PTSD, my wife and I could no longer afford rent and started sleeping on the streets.
After staying at a local shelter we were put in touch with Urban Pathways. I applied for housing at Urban Pathways permanent housing; Clinton Avenue Apartments and was accepted.
My Urban Pathways case manager has helped me find a place to live, get my VA benefits and he involves me in various programs such as: wellness and self management services, financial literacy, and job training opportunities that help reintegrate me into the community.
Please support Urban Pathways in creating a society in which homeless individuals and veterans like me can begin their journey toward stability and self-sufficiency.
Urban Pathways annual Gala will take place on Thursday, May 5th at The Grand Hyatt New York. Join us for an evening filled with hope and opportunity, your contribution and attendance will help us provide our clients with a way home.
Founded in 1975, Urban Pathways (UP) is a not-for-profit, social service and supportive housing organization serving homeless adults in the New York Metropolitan Area.
Urban Pathways serves as the first point of contact for New Yorkers. We engage individuals “where they at” through our strong network of social services to help individuals move into housing and minimize the likelihood of ever returning to the streets.
