Brandon
Brandon had been street homeless for 3 years after moving to New York City from South Carolina in search for better opportunities.
Urban Pathways’ Outreach team engaged Brandon in Port Authority Bus Terminal and helped him move into Travelers Safe-Haven.
Now Brandon lives in his own apartment in one of our supportive housing residences. He is currently a senior at Mercy College and was just hired as a medical assistant at Lenox Hill Hospital.
Daniel
A series of unfortunate events, combined with drug and alcohol use led Daniel to homelessness.
After living on the streets he found Urban Pathways. Once securing housing at one of our residences, Daniel enrolled in the Career Enhancement Program, graduated and is now a full-time Outreach Worker for Urban Pathways.
Robert
Robert had spent the last 20 years living in shelters, streets and most recently Madison Square Park.
Urban Pathways Outreach team engaged Robert for 6 months, ultimately gaining his trust and securing permanent housing for him in our newest residence at 162nd Street in the Bronx.
James
“I just wanted a chance. I am so thankful for Urban Pathways for giving me that chance to get back into the workforce, get off welfare and finally provide for myself.”
James was in and out of jail since age 12 and street homeless as recently as 2013 when he found Urban Pathways.
James is now a graduate of our Career Enhancement Program and works as maintenance at one of our sites where he is an inspiration to other formerly homeless New Yorkers.
Johnathan
Johnathan had a tough childhood.
At age 15, his mother was killed in a car accident.
After his older sister took him in, Johnathan dropped out of school and began a life of drug abuse and crime that ended with him serving 6 years in prison.
While in prison, Johnathan gained custodial experience. Upon his release from jail, he got married, and had children but, his heroin addiction led to his divorce.
After his divorce, Johnathan couch-surfed for 6 years, frequenting methadone clinics to subsidize his heroin addiction.
BRC referred him to Urban Pathways. Here Johnathan joined The Employment Enhancement Program, graduated and is now sober and a full-time maintenance worker at one of our residences.
